After getting a teaching degree and teaching in the public schools, Lynn decided to stay home and homeschool her two children for the next 18 years. During this time, she also led a homeschool support group that focused on supporting homeschooling families. After homeschooling, she briefly worked for a learning center that helped students increase their working memory, visual processing, and processing speed. Here she learned strategies to help students improve their cognitive skills. In 2009, she got trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach and started working for a nonprofit organization that specializes in providing tutoring services for students who struggle with reading and spelling.
During the 15 years she was there, she tutored several hundred students and trained more than a thousand teachers in the Orton-Gillingham approach. While developing and revamping training programs, Lynn has taken every opportunity to acquire a wealth of information regarding the dyslexic student and how they learn.
Lynn feels it is incredibly rewarding to help an individual learn to read and spell more efficiently. She has seen young students who felt defeated become confident and successful adults as a result of their tutoring experiences.
See a list below of the multisensory trainings Lynn has taken taken part in over the past 15 years.
"We can happily report that my son has made outstanding grades, including several quarters with straight"A"s, since he began his OG tutoring, and the pride he finds in his accomplishment is evidence of his desire to succeed. We have Mrs. Leonard to thank for this remarkable turnaround in our son's academic achievement and personal growth!" -Parent of a student
"Thank you so much for everything you do. I really appreciate you! You're a great person and an amazing teacher." -Adult student
"You were there for us when we needed the validation that progress could happen and providing the tools. I still remember the assistance provided shifting from reading to mathematics. That was important because it reinforced that he only learned differently rather than having a lack of ability." -Parent of a student
